History: The first Orthodox monastic community in Belgium was founded in 1976 on the Belgian cost (Western Flanders) by a Belgian Orthodox monk from the Convent of St John the Baptist in The Hague (Netherlands). He was gradually joined by other monks, and in 2024 the monastery has 3 monks of different origins. In 1988 the monks built a real Orthodox church, decorated completely with frescos, which was consecrated in the same year. The parish is officially recognized by the Belgian authorities.
